I was surprised as I was reading this book, half-tempted to call Jude a ‘mama’s boy’. Even when she does wake up from her coma he pushes her away. A very good book. I did enjoy the book but sometimes I think it would have been better as a stand alone book.

They both strip and make love. The characters deal with their own personal struggles which is shown through the extensive use of dual and multiple point of bladkman. Callie Rose also fears that Jude, her uncle, is still alive since he is known for serving revenge cold.

The series describes an alternative history in which African people had gained a blackmman and organisational advantage over the European peoplerather than the other way around, with Africans having made Europeans their slaves. Tobey reminds me too much of Callum. Aug 15, Carolyn Storer rated it liked it Shelves: Cara spends a lot of time with Jude.

She begins to neglect Callie Rose. She meets Jaxon, a hot-tempered man with a band, the Midges. As Sephy had feared after being followed by Jude for a few days, he arrives, planning to murder Sephy.

Contemporary Authors British Council: Sephy tells Jude that she knew that he intended to kill her just before midnight since it was Callum’s birthday that day. Jude, Callum’s older brother, watches Sephy enter her apartment building, and he plans to kill her. At the end of the book… well its the ending you hoped for. Jude leaves just as crows ambulance arrives, with a new plan in mind. She hears Callum shouting to her but is unsure if she heard the word ‘too’ so she cannot be sure that Callum heard her.

At the heart of this pacy novel is a young man struggling to flourish and do the right thing rather than simply survive in a world where “the harder life got.

Callie then points out that Jasmine and Jude died because of her. I hint at the was only because I first read her books, including the first three in this series when I was teenager way way back but I can’t seem to get back into them as an adult. So glad I marathoned it and I would recommend it to anyone.

Not that I consider this be a negative on the part of the writing, in fact I think it should be considered an accomplishment that she writes exactly for a young adult audience. Callie Rose had been told by her mother that her father, Callum, had been a gardener who died in an accident.

Moreover — to consider the possibility of a third way — a society run entirely along non-racially defined power structures. Jul 04, -Sakura- rated crows liked it.

Overall, I liked this a lot. Kamal makes a similar offer to Callum but also wants Callum to say publicly that he raped her.

Tobey’s deepening involvement with the two warring gangs and his attempts to play them off against each other cause him crsos bloody his hands.

For me personally, the ending feels a little open, as if there could, some day, be more to come, although I really don’t think Blackman could surpass herself this time! I didn’t really feel as though this story was connected with the three books before it and I felt some what disconnected. I was sad that the trilogy didn’t end with Checkmate. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.
