The depictions of the wolf pack are both interesting and fascinating. Born of a forbidden, mixed-blood litter and treated as an outcast after her mother is exiled, Kaala struggles to earn her place in the pack.
Finally, as Kaala recounts her life, the narration paints her too clean for my liking. I would deffinatley recommened this book to basically anyone, although I would especially recommend it to people who either like books set in a previous time or books about animals.
She faces many life-and-death struggles in the first chapters, but for someone who faced those struggles and dealt with those emotions firsthand, the voice of the narration is a little stale.
With her brother and sister killed by Ruuquo and her mother banished from the valley, she’s without support. It was this overly dramatic story about wolves, and the premise of was incredibly similar to this one, which made for an interesting read. These guys agreed to pose with me for some photos, so I actually got to pet wolves, and feed them treats.

At first, I thought it dororhy be unfair to the author to write a review for a book I’d only partially read, but as I’ve thought about it, I realized that in the first four chapters of the book, I had formed an opinion that was strong enough to make me decide to set it down, and I feel it’s important to hearsh what dogothy to such a strong opinion.
And yay for good characterization!

In fact it took me a very long time to find the plot at all. A favorite character, however, may be the raven Tlitoo, who plays the part of a Sancho Panza sidekick and provides some comic relief. What became of Borrla?

Overall, I wouldn’t say this was the best thing I’ve ever read and I can see why some people might not enjoy it, but I really liked it and I can’t wait to pick up the second book! As a bit of a step outside of my genre comfort zone, I chose this book for our teacher book club because there are a few of us who enjoy books about alternate world, times, and just off-the-beaten-path kind of novels.

Kaala is brave and appealing, but Dorotyh has given her problems and flaws that keep her real. Her wolf pack is vehemently against mixed blood wolves and kills the rest of her litter.

I doeothy myself becoming lost in the writing itself many times. Kaala must choose between safety for herself, her friends, and their human companions and the survival of her pack—and perhaps all wwolves wolf and humankind. I think I’ll become a wolf expert now I liked this one, but compared to some others I have read, it lags behind a little.
In a sense the story isn’t all that new, wolves and humans learning to live in harmony with one another and the natural world. As far as plot pronise, there is a lot of setting up in this novel. I read about this theory shortly after I started writing Promise and it quickly became the heart of the story. Reading Group Guide – Dorothy Hearst
Set 14, years o in what is now southern Europe, Promise of the Wolvesis the first in a spellbinding trilogy which takes readers on an epic journey into the rich and fascinating world of the wolf. Mar 29, Megan rated it really liked it. If she can best these challenges, Ruuqo will have to let her into the pack so she can fulfill her mother’s instructions. A raven will sneak up behind a wolf and yank its tail and the wolf will play back. Promise of the Wolves is a lovely book. They can also get inside the skin of a wolf in Michelle Paver’s Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series.
Nor did I find the plot dynamic or thoroughly engaging. Kaala is such a strong and stubborn wolf. I liked the main character, a young wolf Thr.

These wolves live, think, and feel like wolves. I better not have to wait several years to find out. While I definitely had fun reading this, I would be hesitant to recommend it, as I can see this is not a book for everyone. Thank you for signing up, fellow book lover! Though it dragged on for a sorothy at first, I quickly fell in love with Kaala and the life of the wolves.
